Q: What is the importance of humidification in the wine cellar?
A: Humidity is as important as having the proper temperature in your wine cellar. Without proper humidity levels your wine cork can dry out allowing your wine to escape from the bottle. This can cause oxidation, which can alter the flavor and ruin the value of your wine. Protect your investment by maintaining the proper RH of 60-65%.
Q: How can I tell what the humidity level is in my wine cellar?
| A: A hygrometer is a sure way to make sure you are maintaining the optimal humidity levels. Is your wine at risk? |
Q: I’ve seen humidification floor fountains and other water devices sold by other companies. Can I use one of those to insure proper humidity levels in my wine cellar?
A: No, these passive humidification systems can not accurately keep your wine cellar at the optimal level of 60-65% RH. Only an active system that is integrated with digital controls that will trigger the turn on and off of the system when those levels are met.
Q: I purchased a cooling system. Shouldn’t that control the humidity in my wine cellar?
A: Unfortunately, most wine cellar cooling systems such as the Breezaire™ or WhisperKOOL™ do not have integrated humidification options. The only system that offers integrated cooling and proper humidification is Vigilant’s Climatech. However, if you have already purchased a wine cellar cooling system without active humidity control, the Humiditech is a perfect compliment to ensure that proper humidity is maintained.
Q: Does the Humiditech tie into the cooling system (Ductless split or Thru-wall) to turn on and off, or does it work independently by itself?
A:The Humiditech is powered and operates independently from either system and controls humidity independent from temperature. The other system may be on and the Humiditech may not be because the humidity in the wine cellar is within the optimal range or vice versa. Check with your sales consultant for more details.
